Fred has over 70 years in the construction business. He has been in involved with nearly every facet of the industry. He has extensive training and experience as a tradesman, estimator, and in job site management.


He resides in Mount Vernon with his wife Sallie.

Steve Hall

President

Steve has been involved in construction all of his life. With nearly 40+ years of experience, Steve has been on the cutting edge of the industry both working for and managing, growing and diversifying Modern Builders, Inc.

He is committed to employing dedicated and trusted employees to ensure his customers are given the proper treatment from project conception to completion. Steve is very active in the community with involvement in Kiwanis Club and United Way. Steve resides in Mount Vernon with his wife Jan.

Jason has been involved with Modern Builders all his working life, but upon college graduation he joined the family business full-time.

He is involved with daily operations including oversight of safety programs and equipment management. He works closely with project and workforce scheduling as well as customer relations and sales.

Jason has a BA in Business Management from MVNU (2001) and Master of Accounting and Financial Management (2012) from DeVry Keller School of Management. A lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, he is committed to helping the community in a variety of volunteer capacities. He currently serves the Board of YMCA of Mount Vernon and, has been a former board member the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and The Foundation for Knox Community Hospital. Jason resides in Mount Vernon with his wife Tessa and their three children.

Jake Melton

Operations Manager & Safety Officer

Jake’s entire entire career has been in construction, from the field to project management.  As the Field Operations Manager for Modern Builders, he is involved with project management, scheduling, safety program, day to day operations and customer relations.

Jake graduated with an Associate’s degree in Construction Management from Columbus State Community College.  Being a resident of Mount Vernon he is committed to a number of volunteer programs including board member of the Mount Vernon Colt Football League, Mount Vernon Baseball Association,  Knox County Chamber of Commerce Safety Committee and assistant varsity football coach for Mount Vernon High School.  Jake resides in Mount Vernon with his wife Casey and their two children Kendall and Nathan.

Mike Doup

Senior Field Operations Manager

22 years of experience in the construction industry.  Mike possesses excellent field experience with knowledge in all areas and trades associated with today’s demanding industry.  His hands on experience with working closely with owner, architects/engineers and field staff provides him with the unique skills required to exceed all expectations and industry standards.

Loren Phillips

Estimator & Project Manager

Loren has 30 years of experience in the construction industry, providing a diverse background in most areas of commercial and industrial construction with an extensive history in health care related projects.  Over the past seventeen years he’s been in the Senior PM and estimator role utilizing his field experience.
